When I was approached to write a devotional for Ladies of Liberty, I didn’t know how to answer. I was almost speechless. Why do I say almost? If you know me, you would know that I’m never speechless, according to popular opinion.
I responded with, “Let me think about this”, after taking minutes to retrieve my voice and what was left of my wits.
Why did I hesitate? Fear? Fear of what? As I promised, I took some time to think about this request. I’m not a writer. I’m not eloquent in speech. Am I even worthy? Eventually, that is what my hesitation boiled down to; my doubt of being worthy.
There was only one way to find out and that was to ask God. I did that and knew that my answer would be in the scriptures. So, let’s explore that question, together, and get my answer.
Let’s start with what the qualifications of worthiness are. For the Christian, we know that we sin, Romans 7:14-25. Paul dealt with sin in the Christian here, and his own personal war with it. In 1John 2:1-2, and 1John 1: 9, he tells us that we have an advocate who presents us as righteous to the Father. Jesus is our counsel for our defense. In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we find that He was made sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
In summary, the Christian is always worthy of doing God’s work, because we are counted as righteous, through the saving blood of Jesus Christ.
Next time, we’ll talk about worthiness for the lost.
